OLD RAGGED FLAG - A POEM BY AMBALI ABIODUN ABDULSHAKUR

We raise her up every morning,
Take her down every night,
We don't let her touch the ground.

We fold her up right
On second thought I DO like to brag
I'm mighty not proud of that old ragged flag'.

Let Nigeria be Nigeria again
Let the old ragged flag be the good flag it used to be.
Let them be the dream they used to be.

Nigeria never was Nigeria to me.
Let Nigeria be the dream the dreamers dreamed,
Let it be that great strong land of love.

It never Nigeria to me.
O, let my land be a land where Liberty
is crowned with no false patriotic wreath,

There's never been equality for me,
Equality is in the air we breathe
No freedom in this 'homeland of the free'.

Freedom is non-negotiable
Our country has become so corrupt and full of anarchy.
Ruling politicians are causing chos and unrelenting strife.

Our constitution is abandon,
They abuse our trust, our taxes and embezzlement is rife,
And they make a misery of our right to a normal self-respecting life.

If we want our country to be prosperous and to be revered internationally.
A leader's job is not to dedicate, but rather to be respected, admired and be a trustee,
Of the land we love, with so much potential,
A land which should be freer than free.

Let Nigeria be Nigeria again
Let it be the pioneer of the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

Let make Nigeria again
Let flay down the OLD RAGGED FLAG.
Let all make a new Nigeria.
